MATCH REPORT

Clydeside AFC 07s eagerly anticipated first 9 a side development game, duly arrived on an unusually dry, but very cold Saturday morning. As John O’Malley led the parents on 3 laps of the pitch to keep warm, the boys did their own pre match routine, under the watchful supervision of their coaches!
Their opponents were Parkmoor, who had brought a few deckchairs, but soon realised that Inverclyde’s unique micro climate, was still set in line with Antarctica!❄️.As the Clydeside parents and a sprinkling of Polar Bears huddled around Mick Kerr’s Bovril flask for  a heat, the game got ready to kick off.
Apparently , the match referee  had an appointment at Specsavers, which unfortunately coincided with our game…so we had to start with no referee and use the eagle eyes of both team coaches for decisions .
It was Parkmoor who started the stronger and took advantage of the absent referee, to fire past young Robin McGeachie from a suspiciously offside position. Lesser teams might have let their heads go down, but this young CAFC team, urged on by their captain for the day, J O’Malley, really upped their game. Some fine early moves involving C Stevenson, C Flynn and J Kerr were forcing the Parkmoor team to defend for their lives. Whilst at the other end, the defence was being well marshalled by R Gamble, R Hurrell & K Hanley, with the latter making some timely interventions to prevent further goals being lost. The equaliser duly arrived when great link up play, saw the ball fall nicely for young K Dolan, who delivered a peach into the keeper’s top right hand corner of the net.Apparently, someone said that the keeper got a hand to it …to which the reply was…” Aye on the way out !’ 😂
After 20 mins, three changes were made with L Taylor, E Dillon & L Baillie coming on, for Kaiden, Carter & Connor respectively.
They all made an immediate impact and it was Ethan’s great work in the box which saw the ball break for Lewis, and his predatory instinct, allowed him to knock it in for 2-1.
After a quick half time refreshment , a pep talk from the coaches, and the parents returning from the fur coat salesmen’s stall, it was time to go for the second 25 mins .
The boys continued where they’d left off in the first half and continued to create numerous chances ! A free kick was earned on the left, after young James went down as if felled by a Serbian sniper.
From the resultant Beckhamesque free kick delivery by James, CAFC extended their lead as young Luke Taylor managed to superbly volley it home !
Further changes were made as Connor, Kaiden and Carter rejoined the play .Everyone could see the confidence oozing through Clydeside as they continued to press Parkmoor at every opportunity.
Another goal duly arrived, courtesy of a wonderful C Flynn volley which sailed into the net .This was to be the end of the scoring and marked a brilliant performance by the young Clydeside AFC team.
It would be wrong to try and pick out a star performer as every boy in today’s squad was outstanding! As all the boys, parents & family members left the park, most of their thoughts turned to tonight’s bonus ball draw, with a potential £300 to be won. Who will win this draw? 🤔
It was also nice to hear G Flynn, M Kerr & J O’Malley remark, that if any of them were to be the lucky winner, they’ll buy everyone involved at our club, a drink !Outstanding gesture !!👏👏🤥😂
Thanks to match kit sponsor NCT Lang! Training kit sponsor Escutcheon Security! Plus our other contributors :-Rodgers & Johnstone, Baronial Consultancy, ITCP Gourock , Abbey Vets, R Boyle 👏👏⚽️👏👏
Good luck to everyone for tonight’s draw and thanks for all continued support !!!
