Match report 06/04/19

Clydeside AFC V Bishopton 07s

Saturday 6 April 2019

Battery Park 9.30am
After last Saturday’s great performance against Parkmoor, there was a great sense of anticipation for Clydeside 07s second development game.Beautiful mornings in Inverclyde are about as rare as hens teeth and Morton wins, so it was a pleasant surprise to play in such perfect conditions.Again, a local search team had been dispatched to find the referee, but unfortunately, just like Brexit, there’s been no solution to this problem. It was decided to use a representative from each club to do a half each.On to the action and it was Clydeside who started confidently, with L Taylor, K Dolan, C Stevenson & J Kerr, producing some cracking passing moves, to leave the Bishopton boys wondering where the ball was! The game was moving at a fair old pace, and numerous chances were being created at both ends, with both teams’ defences and goalkeepers in great form.It was Bishopton who took the lead when a long ball from the back, caught out the Clydeside defence, and their pacy striker latched on to it superbly and produced a clinical finish past young R McGeachie.
Undeterred, the Clydeside youngsters, urged on by K Hanley, L Canning, J O’Malley & C Flynn, kept playing their passing football, creating chances and working hard. The first changes of the half saw Connor & Carter make way for Lewis & Tyler. Lewis looking to build on his goal from the previous Saturday, and young Tyler getting his first taste of action as a Clydeside player, after a recent bout of illness. Despite plenty of goalmouth opportunities, the first half finished with Bishopton still ahead.
The half time break provided the opportunity for Ryan to give out some of the lovely oranges from the Citrus trees, he grows at home!🤥A good dose of vitamin C, some timely tips and the boys were ready & full of zest, for the second half! Carter & Connor replaced James & Kaiden to continue the regular squad rotation during games! It was also time to replace the Bishopton official with one of ours, to ref the second half! Jamie Wallace had to reluctantly refuse this job, after a recent bout of laryngitis had made him speechless…the first time this had happened since he was a trainee plumber and put a toilet in the kitchen! 😂Up stepped Jim Darrah to take on the responsibility. Some of you may know that Jim is a local painter, and he was certainly overcome with emulsion when asked to be ref! 😫
Clydeside started on the front foot and were determined to get back in the game, and continued to create great chances. They did indeed equalise when a great run & cut back by L Taylor, fell to young L Baillie, and he finished expertly! With the young CAFC boys now in full flow it wouldn’t be long before their concerted pressure, brought more goals…and what a goal it was! Young Carter, who had displayed great footwork all day, managed to evade his marker and blast a 20 yard blockbuster into the Bishopton net.As the Clydeside fans were still cheering, the third soon followed !Young Josh, again having shown great touch and passing throughout, demonstrated his shooting skills, to fire past the keeper! This goal was hotly disputed by the Bishopton bench and a few choice words were thrown at the ref. However Jim, after consulting VAR, decided that the goalwould stand . He also explained that he had been on the phone getting details of his next decorating job and quickly brushed aside any complaints !
Despite a spirited display and effort from the courageous Bishopton boys, it was young Leo who provided the coup de grace and final goal ! Cutting in from the left, he beat a few defenders before firing home! He said he was inspired by last week’s visit to Man Utd, and videos of his dad playing 5s…🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥. ( Ryan had to pay Leo £40 extra in pocket  money to say this 😂)
Another great result and performance from all 11 boys involved for Clydeside. The hard work continues at training this week ! Well done to all!! 👏
