MATCH REPORT Clydeside AFC Vs Morton Community Blue Sunday 19 May, 2019 10:30am ko Darroch Park Grass

Last week it was St Mirren, this week it was Morton’s turn to take on the mighty Clydeside in the 2nd of three transitional 11 a side games.

Played at Gourock Park grass, CAFC had a full squad to choose from on a nice sunny morning !

Well this was debatable for a time, as M Kerr had asked if himself and Josh could get a run down to the park !

Again, there was a slight misunderstanding with the message ! Imagine his horror, when he opened his door to find we had arranged a Glenpark Harrier to knock on his door at 8am to jog with him from the Port to Gourock ! 😂Mick had to tell the athlete to jog on and he’d catch him up !🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Aside from this, it was down to warm up time ! Gerry was taking the boys through their paces, only to discover that there were no training cones! It was back to his childhood as old tops, jackets and anything else to hand, were used for goalposts !😫

The boys had complained that the park we were on looked a bit dull ! So we quickly moved to the other one ! Well, you know what they say ‘ The grass is always greener on the other side!’ 😫😫

After Sammy delivered a rousing pre match speech, it was down to action!

Clydeside started strongly, with some enterprising play from Carter, Tyler and Kaiden, which had the Morton team worried !

With Robin, Ethan, Leo, Robbie & Kieran keeping the back door shut, it was only a matter of time before the first goal arrived !

Lewis used his predatory instinct to put Clydeside one up !

He had extra incentive after his dad promised him a sizeable chunk of his recent BB ball rollover win ! 💷💷💷💷💷

Unfortunately, that signalled an upsurge in Morton’s play and a quick 4 goals that unsettled CAFC.

Undeterred, the boys came in for their half time team talk and refreshments ! Ryan had been nightshift, and was getting some strange looks from the spectators! Unbeknown to him, he had forgotten to change into his coaches kit, and still had on his 1980s Andy Ritchie limited edition Morton pyjamas! 🤥

A few eyes lit up when as well as the orange slices, Sammy had brought melon for a tasty treat !

When asked if it was Canteloupe or Honeydew melon, Sammy replied ‘ No it’s Morrison’s!’😀

After a stern talking to about some of the attitudes in the first half , it was a determined group of boys that began the second half !

James, Josh, Rory, Connor , Cameron and Luke were working hard and combining well to create more chances !

After some near misses, it was James who got a goal back with a 20 yard scorcher into the top corner. Although buoyed by this, they couldn’t get any more goals back to reduce the deficit !

Young Robin in goal continued to bring off some marvellous saves but could do nothing about Morton’s 2 late tap ins!

A disappointing result but again, all part of the young Clydeside team’s development to 11 a side !

An experience they’ll learn from !

The last piece of action was to send out a search party for Jim Darrah ! Jim had been posted down to Shore St to retrieve any wayward shots that had flown over the Darroch Park fence !😀
