Clydeside AFC turned up at Lady Octavia, to play their local rivals, St Stephens in a friendly match. The CAFC coaches were fully aware how important it was, to keep the boys active, after league matches were suspended until January 2021. The team and club are currently in a good, positive place, and want to ensure that continues.
Some of the Clydeside coaches were greeted by a couple of the local youngsters, stating they were ‘the ultras!’ We’re still unsure whether they meant ultra cold, ultra wet, or ultra bored.
Anyway CAFC started the game well, playing against the wind and heavy rain. Showing a good shape and discipline from the start, and a defence well marshalled by Tyler in goal, Kieran & Robbie in centre, and Rory, Aidan in the full back roles.
With Leo, Cammy, James and Connor working hard in the midfield, it was Leo who opened the scoring with a 25 yard effort that squirmed under the St Stephens gk. CAFC continued to press and were rewarded when Zack latched onto Cammy’s pass to finish superbly from a very acute angle, with Lewis ready to pounce if it didn’t cross the line.
The one change made was Ethan coming on for Aidan after 30 mins, as young Aidan got himself ready to play in goal for the second half.
At half time, the coaches were relatively pleased with the performance, score line and the fact that no player had been blown away into the stratosphere, by the gale force winds. The ankle weights on a few of them had worked.
Into the second half, young Tyler was able to come outfield with Aidan going in goal, James dropping back and Rory coming off. The similar pattern continued as CAFC pressed and were winning most first and second balls.
The third goal came from a soft penalty award and which Leo converted. Young Aaron replaced Connor wide right, as the CAFC pressure continued.
Tyler made it 4-0 with the goal of the game . A good cross field ball from Ethan, was cleared out and Tyler met it on the half volley from 18 yards to fire home.
Connor and Rory replaced Lewis and Zack to play in central midfield with Leo and Cammy moving up front . This didn’t disrupt the flow as CAFC continued to dominate . Leo ended the scoring when he raced through the St Stephens defence to side foot home.
A satisfying performance from all 13 players involved, and good performances throughout the team. Special mention to Tyler and Aidan for covering in goal today, as young Morri was injured.
Man of the match was Leo for his overall performance and added bonus of 3 goals.
