The passports were looked out as young Clydeside AFC were scheduled to play at Newton Mearns against a talented St Cadoc’s team.
As the local boys prepared to cross 3 time zones and battle horrific traffic congestion it was agreed they’d leave on the Thursday, to ensure they arrived on time. 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥
The talk prior to this game, was that they’d again be playing in a cage !🤔
However, meticulous planning by the coaches and a week’s acclimatisation training in one of the enclosures against an Edinburgh Zoo select, had ensured that the boys would be ready for this and any future cage game environment! 😀
The boys started well and instinctively switched on to the passing football they love to play !
After some near misses it was down to Kieran Hanley to demonstrate his shooting ability !
Picking up the ball in his own half, he unleashed a cannonball from the halfway line, that Mons Meg would be proud off, to put the Inverclyde youngsters, one up.
This soon became 2, when after a Gareth Bale style lungbusting run down the left, and leaving a trail of smouldering AstroTurf 🔥🔥🔥in his wake, Leo crossed for young Connor to finish clinically !⚽️
This playing in a cage wasn’t so bad after all. The only downside was that the parents were not allowed inside the cage to see their boys and they had to watch as half time snacks were in bowls placed at the side of the park and the boys had to drink from bottles tied to the wire!😫
Into the second half and Clydeside continued to dominate the play and create numerous chances. However , the score line remained the same until 5 minutes from the end ! The referee awarded a free kick to St Cadoc’s , which was duly converted. There was no further scoring and the Clydeside masses left the cage in a happy frame of mind, after another great performance !
The general talk amongst the masses was the absence of the female St Cadoc’s coach that had fallen out with absolutely everyone on their previous visit!
A St Cadoc’s coach confirmed she’d stayed away, as she’d heard J O’Malley was trying to sell the final few numbers in the Clydeside AFC bonus ball draw😀!
The former Radio Clyde scoreboard presenter and top Sun racing pundit, Jim Delahunt, was spotted at the venue before the Clydeside game.
However, he was seen beating a hasty retreat when Mick Kerr was apparently badgering him for the latest insider horse news, and bragging about his success in the national.
Mick had quite a long face 😫when told there was neigh chance of any tips coming his way, as Jim didn’t hang about furlong and galloped off into the distance !🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴
Well done again to our young stars and our coaches/parents for the arduous journey, to and from ! We all look forward to the next fixture !👏👏👏
